Make you an entree you can't refuse

"Ba-Da-Bing" is a dinner theater show that celebrates the social event of the year--Mr. Big's birthday party. After a good frisking by the boys, guests are served a traditional Italian meal while the interactive party plays out with singing, dancing and a whacking or two. They finish you off with a glass of champagne and homemade Tiramisu. "Ba-Da-Bing" is presented at Sazio's in the Orleans Thursday-Monday at 7:30 p.m. Info: 257-0297.

Such a warm, fuzzy name

Death Cab for Cutie is poised to be a namebrand band. Oddly enough, it named itself after a Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band lyric, but don't expect a lot of wacky from these guys. They play straight-forward, melodic music with well-crafted lyrics and a no-nonsense stageshow. They perform at the Huntridge Monday along with John Vanderslice, the Velvet Teen and Hella. Tickets are $12 in advance and $14 at the door. Info: 678-6800.

TGIFF

Yes, folks, it's the first Friday of the month again, which means the downtown arts district is holding the event that is serendipitously called First Friday. Imagine the terrible confusion that would have reigned had they called it First Tuesday. The event features gallery openings, open studios, live music and bus tours of the arts district. Last month it included a theatrical performance, belly dancers and a Mercury scribe selling poems by the inch or something. You'll have to come on down to see what the phrase "special events" means this time. First Friday starts at 6 p.m. The Funkhouse at 1228 S. Casino Center Blvd. (678-6278) and the Arts Factory at 101 E. Charleston Blvd. (676-1111) are good places to start your visit.
