The comeback kidder

Comic David Brenner, a.k.a. the "comeback kidder," has been delivering zingers since 1971. Since Brenner bases his act on current events, he changes his material nightly. He delights in jabbing at his recent favorite subjects: President Bush, Secretary of State Colin Powell, terrorists, airport security and even the pope. "Weekday Laughs with David Brenner" is presented in the Suncoast Showroom Monday-Thursday at 7:30 p.m. through March. Tickets are from $29.95. Info: 636-7075.

Mountain movie madness

Calling all adrenaline junkies and armchair adventurers. Take the high road with the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour when it stops at the Clark County Library Theater, 1401 E. Flamingo Road. Jointly presented by the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District and the Desert Space Foundation, 10 of the fest's short films that exalt mountain sports, mountain culture and the environment will be screened. The movies start rolling March 18 at 7 p.m. Free. Info: 507-3459 or 898-0511.

Your mileage may vary

In their new single, "All Around the World (Punk Debutante)," the Cooler Kids say "We come from the future of next school new wavin'," and we're terrified that it's true. How can you subtitle a song "Punk Debutante" when it's clearly just disco? Didn't we fight a war, or have a telethon or something, to end disco in our time? Anyway, if you want to hear music that sounds disturbingly like a disco japanimation theme song (and God knows there's a lot of you sumbitches who do), the Cooler Kids are playing Wednesday at the Joint. They're opening for Erasure, a band doing disco covers of 20- to 40-year-old songs. The show starts at 9 p.m., tickets are $45.50. Info: 693-5066.

Okay, we get the joke already

And yet, we still want to see it. Dread Zeppelin does reggae covers of Led Zeppelin songs. It also has an Elvis-impersonating frontman and a lot of other on-stage weirdness. Think of it as the anti-Creed. Dread Zeppelin plays at the House of Blues Friday at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15. Info: 632-7200.

Rock like a drunken leprechaun

The Wild Celts are playing at Jack's Irish Pub in the Palace Station Monday night, but that's nothing new, they're there every Monday. This Monday, though, is different. It's St. Patrick's Day, when everyone, even Marzette Lewis, is Irish. So come on down and hoist a Guiness and toast Ireland, potatoes, Bono and the joys of a snake-free society. Info: 367-2411.
