Island funk It's still a little wintery (by Las Vegas standards) this week, but that doesn't mean you don't have that Polynesian fever. For a taste of the South Pacific, head down to the Lloyd D. George Federal Courthouse at 333 Las Vegas Blvd. South at noon Friday to see Hot Lava, which will be performing Polynesian music and dances. It's free. Info: 229-6328.
Do do that Voodoo that you do so well Scott Wexton, a.k.a. the Voodoo Organist, plays an odd mix of blues, lounge and exotica on his Yamaha YC-25 organ. If you missed his show in December, now is the time to catch him before he raises his unholy army of the dead and crushes the puny small-minded mortals of this backwards realm. He shares the bill with garage rockers Black Jetts Friday at the Cooler Lounge. Info: 646-3009.
Last call for Rock X-Posed Rock X-Posed, the traveling show of 500 rock star photographs, pulls up stakes this week. The show features an amazing assortment of rock pictures by some of the best photographers in the field. If you want to check out the pictures, or try to find the picture of Phil Collins with hair and muttonchops, Sunday is your last chance. Tickets are $12. Rock X-Posed is in the big temporary tent-like structure behind the Rio. Info: 777-7776. |
