Kickin' it old school

And we mean OLD school. Rickles has been a fixture in Las Vegas for so long that he once performed by candlelight. And such an attractive man. We use his photos to frighten away the cockroaches. Seriously, he should consider one of those Mr. Personality masks. But we kid because we love. Honestly, Don, you're our favorite ancient doughy irrelevant comic. No wait, that's Marty Allen. But Rickle's definitely on the list. Not on the first page, or the second, but on the list. He plays at the Stardust at 8 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. Tickets are $49.50. Info: 732-6325.

Baseball bat out of hell

Sure, Susan Sarandon may be the most politically active actor from The Rocky Horror Picture Show, but don't count out Meat Loaf. This weekend he hosts a series of charity events to benefit the Lili Claire Foundation's UNLV Life Skills Center. It starts Friday at 8 p.m. with Meat's Celebrity Softball Classic at UNLV. Tickets are $5-10. Saturday and Sunday features the "2 Out of 3 Ain't Bad" Golf Classic at Silverstone Golf Club. Adult tickets are $10 and seniors and teen tickets are $5. Kids under 12 get in free. Tickets for both events are available at all Terrible Herbst convenience stores. Saturday night is the Meat Loaf and Friends All Star Jam and Pool Party at Skin at the Palms. Tickets are $50 and are available at Guitar Center, the Palms gift shops or by phone at 791-5454, which is also the number for more information about the events. See Meat Loaf now before he's axed to death once again by an irate Tim Curry.

Representin' art

Water lilies, cute little puppies, cheery little bowls of fruit. Screw that. If you like your art a little more on the disturbing side, you need to get your ass down to Saturday's one-night-only music and art event, "Theory of Revolution." Put together by Five Finger Miscount, the event features music by The Chapter, Ink Floyd, The List and Phoenix Orion. But the art is the big draw. Pictured here is the work of Mear One, a former illegal graffiti muralist, now a nationally known artist. His work has appeared on several CD covers and he frequently appears in Juxtapose Magazine. The show also features work by illustrators Alex Pardee and Robert Bowen, who have put out a heap of art books, calendars and comics. Native Las Vegans K.D. Matheson and Mark T. Zeilman will round out the show. The event starts at 7 p.m. at Katherine Gianaclis Park for the Arts at 5690 Boulder Highway (just south of Tropicana Avenue). Tickets are $5. Info: 226-2057.

Prepare for band battle

The local music talent was thick at the second of seven Lift Ticket 2003 Benefit Concerts, held May 24 at the Summerlin Smoothie King. Hip hop crew New Movement opened the show strong, paving the way for oddball indie rockers Inner Earth and young punks Extension 106 and Chemical X. When the smoke cleared, the battle of the bands ended in a tie with Slow to Surface and Time Spent Burning prevailing. Lift Ticket 3 is set for June 14. For info call 639-6366.
