SAVE THE ROCKS: So maybe you knew that Sloan Canyon, on the south side of Sun City Anthem, has the highest concentration of petroglyphs in all of Nevada, but chances are, you're sitting there scratching your head and wondering, "What are petroglyphs?" In layman's terms, they're very old paintings on rocks--important cultural artifacts the Southern Nevada Group of the Sierra Club is working to preserve. The club meets Wed., April 14, 7 p.m., Nevada Power, 6226 W. Sahara Ave. Info: 648-2993.
KARMA CHAMELEON: Exotic Pets is holding a clothing drive for Safe Nest, a local support service for victims of domestic violence. Bring in gently used clothing and marvel at how geckos effortlessly stick to vertical surfaces. Sun., April 11, Noon-5 p.m., Exotic Pets, 2105 N. Decatur Blvd. Info: 631-7387.
FIGHT CITY HALL: Las Vegas Councilwoman Janet Moncrief is holding two public meetings next week to hear from her Ward 1 constituents. The western part of Ward 1 is invited on Wed., April 14, to the Easter Seals of Nevada multipurpose room, 6200 W. Oakey Blvd. The central portion of the ward is invited on Thu., April 15, to the Rex Bell Elementary School multipurpose room, 2900 Wilmington Way. Both meetings start at 6 p.m. |
