Fine (clickita clackita clackita fsssst) art If graffiti is never respected as a legitimate art form in Las Vegas, it won't be because these guys aren't trying. The 5ive Finger Miscount crew presents "Cold Skool," the biggest urban art exhibit the city has seen yet. The show features local artists as well as well as a number of nationally known superstars, including Saber One, Jonn Wayshak, Revok and Alex Pardee. Plus, probably half the Metro anti-graffiti squad in mall-bought hip hop outfits, spouting gangsta gibberish they learned from MTV. The show takes place tonight at 6 at the Fort Cheyenne Events Center, 2428 E. Cheyenne Ave. Tickets $15. Info: 226-2057.
The Desert Demo Garden vs. the Dessert Demo Garden While both are long-running Las Vegas institutions, the Desert Demo Garden pulls out to an early lead on price alone. Admission is free and it's a great place for homeowners to get ideas for their own water-smart gardening. As an added bonus, a lot of the garden is in bloom this time of year. The 14th annual Epicurean Affair, on the other hand, is a whopping $100 per person, plus a $25 if you wait to buy your tickets at the door. It boasts the same open-air ambience but with the addition of food from as many as 70 of the city's finest restaurants, as well as "Bar Alley," showcasing our nightlife of lounges and nightclubs with dancers, flair bartenders and signature beverages. A close call, but while both are worthy attractions, the Epicureans get the nod for sending us this picture of a chocolate-covered woman. Even straight women and our own Homeowner are intrigued by that. The Desert Demo Garden is at 3701 W. Alta Drive and is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Info: 258-3205. The Epicurean Affair starts at 7 p.m. April 15 at the Garden of the Gods at Caesars Palace. Info: 731-7200.
That can't be hygienic I Can Lick Any Sonofabitch in the House comes to town this week. While we're impressed by the band's pounding music and its clever and politically charged lyrics, we are a bit concerned. We're fond of the Double Down, but really, for your own good, keep your tongues to yourselves. We're just saying. ICLASITH plays at the Double Down, 640 Paradise Road, at 10 p.m. Saturday. Admission free. Info: 791-5775.
He never calls, he never writes... Last time David Copperfield was in town, we pitched a brilliant idea to him in these very pages. Wrap your head around this: an audiobook of David Copperfield reading David Copperfield. Despite the obvious brilliance of the idea, his people have yet to call our people to hammer out the details. We've half a mind to scrap the idea and go with plan B: Tiny Tim reading A Christmas Carol. Oh wait. Never mind. Call us, Dave, we're still ready to talk turkey. Meanwhile, Copperfield is doing his magic shtick at the MGM Grand through Wednesday at 7:30 and 10 p.m. Tickets are $97. Info: 891-7777.
Because no one looks good in a mugshot The man gives us "By the Time I Get to Phoenix," "Gentle on My Mind," a stint with the Beach Boys and a stunning performance in True Grit and we have to bring up the mugshot. You know the one where he looks like Tommy Lee Jones channeling Ernest Borgnine. Buck up, Glen. But for your newfound edginess, we probably wouldn't have run this. We really need to sort out our priorities. Glen Campbell, a.k.a. the Rhinestone Cowboy, plays at Buffalo Bill's Star of the Desert Arena at 8 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $29.50-$39.50. Info: 386-7867. |
