To avoid a political scandal, he and fellow DEA agent Bob Sattler launch a secret mission to foil her kidnappers' blackmail attempt. Debut writer-director David Starr's 2002 political thriller, which premiered at the Palms last month, plays there Fri.-Mon., Apr. 23-26 only.--AA

4 stars (NR, 106 min.) In 1985, British climbers Joe Simpson and Simon Yates tried to scale the unclimbed west face of Siula Grande, a 21,000-foot deathtrap in the Peruvian Andes. Kevin MacDonald's docudrama, which intercuts interviews with reenactments of the journey, is a terrifying saga of snow, wind, willpower and transformation.
