2 AM: Club life with Meme Hsu

Welcome to 2004! Today, I am slowly nursing my poor stomach and head back to health and hoping that half the things I did last night were not caught on tape and sold to Girls Gone Wild.

I am thankful that my favorite cousin, Susie, her boyfriend, Brian, my wonderful big sister, Jane, her fiancé, Kevin, and Justin, the best kisser in the world and only guy who makes me go from woman in charge into in a submissive little nymph, were there to keep me in line...when they weren't drunk themselves. Thanks for keeping me out of jail!

With First Friday, Las Vegas' monthly cultural event, Friday night, I was reminded of a talented artist named Mark Zeilman. He has a painting called "Violently Happy," which is a great representation of what I think of the phrase, "perception is reality." So with that said, this year I thought I would share some of my resolutions with you. If we perceive it, then we can achieve it.

By the way, make sure you check out Zeilman's art at the Funk House, 1228 S. Casino Center Blvd. Meet me after for some fun at the Ice House Lounge, 650 S. Main St. (Mark Zeilman, www.mtzart.com, mark@mtzart.com, 610-5718; Ice House, 315-2570; The Funk House, www.thefunkhouselasvegas.com, 678-6278)

Clubbing resolutions

1. Get more exercise. We can all use some exercise, and that is why we all need to get out to the local clubs and dance. There is nothing better than burning calories while you have fun.

2. Meet more people. I know there are times when we are not naturally attracted to people who approach us, but why not talk to them anyway? Remember that they saw something they liked and it probably took some courage to say, "Hello." I have never turn down a dance...no matter who it is, because I respect people for trying.

3. Get some culture. Go to First Friday every month. At First Friday, you are sure to see some things you love and some things you hate, but all in all you are making yourself better by expanding your mind. Starting at 6 p.m. every first Friday of the month, this event features local artists, openings and open studios. After taking in the sights, follow the artists to the clubs for a fun night of drinking and dancing.

4. Learn something new. I'm a people watcher. Before you get on the dance floor next time, look around. Watch other dancers and see if you can pick up some of their moves. Watch how people interact and improve your game.

5. Experience new things. Instead of visiting the same clubs every weekend, mix it up and go somewhere new! You may find your new favorite hangout.

Uh, Mom, I think I

killed the relatives

My goal, as any good Las Vegas host, is to give my relatives the time of their lives. I need them going home to their boring states hungover, sore from dancing and with memories that they will spend the rest of their lives trying to forget.

First stop is Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville at the Flamingo. I'm going to tell my family we are going there for the food, but wait till they see the margarita volcano! I'm not leaving until I have them all singing or we are all kicked out. (Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville at the Flamingo, www.margaritaville.com/lasvegas.htm, 888-308-8899)

Next destination is Venus at the Venetian. We will be hitting up the Tiki bar for some exotic drinks and to soak in the energetic environment. (Venus, 414-4870)

No day is complete until someone you know is dancing on a bar. We will be sure to stop by Coyote Ugly at New York-New York. Come party with us as the beautiful bartenders ascend the bar to perform a bold show filled with stunts ranging from fire-blowing to body shots, clogging and choreographed dance numbers. (Coyote Ugly, 740-6969)

For some late-night fun, we will be at Seven at Harmon and Las Vegas Boulevard. (Seven, 739-7744)
