A/E Highlights

Super Bowl party! Wheee! Who's playing?

The food! The cheerleaders! The Janet Jackson halftime show! The disturbingly tight pants! The unwittingly homoerotic poses (see above)! The massive and completely unnecessary overuse of exclamation points! Face it, folks, if you're anywhere near a public TV Sunday, you're going to see those tight ends. Everybody is having some sort of Super Bowl party, but the Palms, ever vigilant with the press releases, gets our nod here. It's having two parties, one in the ballroom, which it's calling the "football room," and another in the Brenden Theaters, with the action being shown on the ultimate big-screen TV, a movie screen. Either one will run you $39.95. Doors open at 2 p.m. Tickets available at the gifts shops or Ticketmaster at 474-4000. Info: 940-7246.

Bowie, rhymes with Joey

And Macy Gray, too. Lord knows how Avril pronounces that one. Two great voices, Lord knows how many costume changes and three eye colors. Where can you go wrong with all that? They're at the Joint, Friday through Feb. 6 at 8 p.m. Tickets are...yikes, $104 to $304. Info: 693-5066.

Play that funky bodhran, white boys

Bodhran. You know, that crazy flat handheld drum thingy. Don't look at us that way. It's a real word. The Chieftains have been playing traditional Irish music since God was in knickers. By now, they've got it right. They'll be at the UNLV Performing Arts Center Saturday at 8 p.m. Tickets are $35-$60. Info: 895-7287.

Is there life after the Norm show?

You'd already forgotten that Norm Macdonald had a self-titled sitcom, hadn't you? Artie Lange, who's the special guest at "Beacher's Comedy Madhouse" Saturday, survived both that and "Mad TV." But over at www.artielangedeathwatch.com, they're still waiting for the big guy to go belly up. He should be fine, despite his excessive drinking and smoking, as long as he avoids the dreaded "Fat comedian in a Western" curse. Catch him while you can, before he dies making Cowboys in Love: The Motion Picture. The show goes on at 10 p.m. at the Hard Rock. Tickets are $49.69. Info: 693-5066.
