JUNIOR SENIOR: Elementary schoolkids don't know what a gerund is. They don't even know how to do long division. All they need is someone to help them draw hexagons, pronounce "telephone" and count piles of plastic pennies. If you're older than 55 and you think these are reasonable tasks, Catholic Charities wants you to tutor students at elementary schools throughout the Clark County School District. Info: 382-0721.

GET SMART: Sure, older kids are a little smarter and a lot more petulant than their younger counterparts, but they need just as much help--maybe more. CCSD is looking for volunteers over 18 years old who can commit at least one afternoon a week for six weeks to working with these kids. Volunteers are needed to help students during their homework hour; to teach enrichment classes such as arts and crafts, chess and sports; and to tutor reading and math skills. Info: 799-7080 ext. 360.
