Thursday, July 29, 2004 Rant
Listen, I know it's hot. I gathered from the, um, heat. And the constantly running air-conditioners, and the fans, and the sweaty people, many of whom aren't wearing enough clothing when they really ought to cover up some of that stuff. You don't have to tell me it's hot. In fact, you don't have to tell anybody. We are all aware. I realize it's just small talk. Commiseration about the oppressive climate this time of year. I understand the inclination. But stop. Move on. It may seem relatively harmless to complain about the heat, but it isn't. It's damaging to the collective Las Vegas psyche--and therefore dangerous to your well-being. You see, most of us have conditioned ourselves to ignore the fact that we live in an unlivable place three or four months of the year. When you keep reminding us about it, we get agitated--and begin looking for someone on which to take out our frustrations, say, with a sharp jab to the solar plexus.--Geoff Schumacher |
