KENNEL CLUB: Some people think of Lied Animal Shelter as a jail for pets, but it's actually more of a social club where neutered pets get to meet other neutered pets in a relaxed, friendly environment. Plus, as long as the animals are not vicious or suffering, they can stay as long as they like without fear of euthanasia. (Hey, that's more than can be said of Holland.) Lied needs volunteers to do everything from clerical work to animal socialization to kennel cleaning. 655 N. Mojave Road. Info: 384-3333.

NORTH POLL: Sure, it's easy to vote for the "American Idol," but voting in an actual election of consequence can be tricky. In that spirit, the city of North Las Vegas will host an informational meeting for Hispanic voters at the North Las Vegas Library, 2300 Civic Center Drive, on Thu., June 17, from 6-8 p.m. Info: 633-1556.
