Thursday, March 04, 2004 2 AM: Club life with Meme Hsu
Seems like my life never slows down. I am constantly on the move with no time to breathe. Last Wednesday, I could be found in the Foundation Room listening to the sounds of Chris King and Michael Fuller, a.k.a. The Funkler. King, son of legendary Sonny King, teamed up with longtime friend The Funkler for an amazing performance. The collaboration fused King's innovative song lyrics with The Funkler's hypnotic house beats, creating a new dimension in sound. The duo's great partnership can be heard on the CD, Vegas: Escapism. (Mandalay Bay, 632-7777) Friday night was intense when I club-hopped till 5 a.m. I hit the Monte Carlo Brew Pub for an early dinner. The best thing about the brewpub is that the menu complements the selection of beers. Huge copper beer barrels and industrial furnishings are just a few of the features that add to the pub's atmosphere--not to mention bands performing Sunday through Thursday and DJs and VJs on Friday and Saturday nights starting at 9. (Monte Carlo, 730-7290) Next, I headed to Studio 54 to be naughty with my girlfriends. It's good to start a night out with '80s music and good friends. I just love watching those male dancers when they strip off their shirts. Yum. Next stop was Tabu for some sophisticated fun and bad-ass martinis. Four olives, please. (Studio 54, 891-7254; Tabu, 891-7183) Last stop was OPM at the Forum Shops inside Caesars Palace. We ended the night sitting in VIP as we listened to the sounds of DJ Andy Gil tearing it up in the DJ booth. By the way, major props to OPM, which was voted No. 1 in Zagat's "Nightlife Destination" category in Las Vegas 2004. Ladies, remember that every night is "Ladies Night" at OPM. Women drink free until midnight. On Thursday nights, OPM presents "Lipstick Thursdays." DJ Andy Gil and Chris de Jesus will be playing the best mix of girlie hits to move your hips. (OPM, 369-4998)
I cater to men I think it's easy to fulfill men's needs. All they really want is good music, alcohol and pretty women. So here's some good music news. Today, March 4, at Risque in the Paris, Gianni and Taj will be having a CD release party. Gianni is one of the most sought-after trance DJs in the Bay Area. Taj has both a unique look and mixing style that garners significant attention. Coupled with his diversity is his passion and dedication to the art of being a musician; his hard work has led him to prestigious West Coast residencies. (Paris, 946-7000) Alcohol will be pouring on Tuesday, March 9, at the Aladdin, which will be hosting the "Sixth Annual Legends of Bartending Competition" in the theater. This year promises more than ever before, as 75 professional "mixologists" from more than 13 countries hope to strip three-time reigning champion Christian Delpech of his title of "World's Greatest Bartender" and win more than $30,000 in cash and prizes. Following the competition will be an after-party at Curve Ultra Lounge. Tickets are on sale for $15 pre-sale ($25 at the door), which includes free admission to the post-event party in Curve. (Tickets, 785-5000, 474-4000, ticketmaster.com; Curve, 290-9582) On Saturday, March 6, 10 p.m., Studio 54 at the MGM Grand, Chivas Regal and Michelob Light will present "Playboy's 50th Anniversary Club Tour." In honor of Playboy's 50th anniversary, Playboy, Chivas Regal and Michelob Light are rolling out the red carpet for consumers to join the celebration with 50 exclusive parties in different U.S. cities. Studio 54 will transform into a private "members only" club, reminiscent of the world-famous Playboy Club. VIP tickets include special photo opportunities with the Playboy Playmates, a VIP laminate, and VIP access to the upstairs of Studio 54. VIP, $40 each; General admission, $20 each for men, $10 for out-of-state women, free admission for local women. Tickets go on sale at Studio 54 on March 6 at 9 p.m. (Studio 54, 891-7254) |
