A/E Highlights

Hart of glass

Sure, Fredrick Hart's sculptures are always crowd-pleasers, but you do have to contend inexplicable Blondie music running through your head. The show opens Sunday but if you're quick, you can sign up to be a member and go to the members' opening from 2-4 p.m. Saturday. They're having a special promotion: New family memberships are only $25 right now. Regular admission is $5. The Las Vegas Art Museum (at the West Sahara Library) is open 1-5 p.m. Sundays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and closed Mondays. Info: 360-8000.

Wooohoo! We're gonna party like a Radetich

Even we wouldn't mock this subject. Tonight, Nina Radetich is hosting Nina's Night Out, an event to benefit the Rape Crisis Center of Southern Nevada. There's an Uncle Kracker concert at the Palms' Skin Pool Lounge and a VIP reception with the band and a host of local celebs at the Ghostbar. Guests can bid on items in a silent auction and enjoy a mini-acoustic concert with Uncle Kracker and some of the local celebrities. Tickets are $50 for the concert, $75 for the concert and VIP reception, which includes an open bar and hors d'oeuvres from 5-7 p.m. The concert starts at 7 p.m. Info: 474-4000 and 947-8833.

Goshdang show-off punk

When we were 22, the only tux we had ever worn was powder blue and stank of grain alcohol that we tried to smuggle into the prom. Bah on you, piano man. Orion Weiss stars in the Las Vegas Philharmonic season opener Images in Sound, featuring great music inspired by great art. The concert begins at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Artemus Ham Hall at UNLV. Tickets are $25-$66. Info: 895-ARTS (2787).

Dude, pick on someone your own size

Who would want to watch a world-class tennis player compete against kids? Oh wait. It's the Grand Slam for Children. All right, we're cool with that. The event features a passel o' performers, including Josh Groban, John Mayer, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Ray Romano and Robin Williams. The show starts at 8 p.m. Saturday at the MGM Grand Garden. Tickets are $75-$150. Info: 891-7777.

Brooks there, Dunn that

We don't read a lot of country music periodicals, so we don't know if that headline's been used a thousand times. All we know is it amuses us, and when all is said and done, isn't amusing us the whole point of life? Brooks and Dunn, with Gretchen ("Redneck Woman") Wilson opening, play at 8 p.m. Saturday at Buffalo Bills Star of the Desert Arena at Primm. Tickets are $42 and $65. Info: 386-7867.

Elvis wishes he was this cool

Somewhere, working as a janitor in a Krispy Kreme, a tired old man, who used to be The King, is listening to a tape on a battered, thrift store Walkman. Chances are, he's listening to El Vez, the Mexican Elvis with the fun, goofy and politically charged songs. He plays at 11 p.m. Saturday at the House of Blues. Tickets are $15. Info: 632-7600.
