Thursday, January 27, 2005 Duel: Rob Blair Vs. Rev. Al Sharpton
Oh, the faint blip on the media radar that was former KTNV Channel 13 weatherman Rob Blair. Mere months into his chipper 'n' chatty TV weather gig, he burned out amid accusations of racism--and an axing so swift it broke the sound barrier (if not the racial divide). In case you don't remember, Blair's the guy accused of referring to "Martin Luther King Jr. Day" as "Martin Luther Coon King Jr. Day" during a weather forecast that aired last week. Was Blair railroaded by overzealous PC shock troops or rightfully punished for an act of blatant racism? Bah. Leave such questions to the pundits. We're here to Duel! It's a shutout on this night. Blair's weather-pointing finger of doom and boyish "I'm innocent" shrug look formidable, but Al Sharpton blows the malaprop-prone meteorologist back with repeated gales of reactionary verbiage, tying the weatherman up the against the ropes. But there's a chance for a comeback! Blair tries tagging off with his crew of no less than six editors who saw his pre-taped forecast, but it's too late, as Sharpton towers over him and declares, "I have a dream!" before unleashing a hailstorm of righteously indignant kicks and jabs. Forecast: Career change with a 30 percent chance of long-term unemployment.--Andrew Kiraly |
