Thursday, March 18, 2004 Mercury Happy Hour GuideCheap buzzes, great deals and cool bars
A polar bear, a giraffe and a penguin walk into a bar... ...and the bartender says, "What is this? Some kind of joke?" Har har. Of course, any drinker worth his weight in foam knows that bar-crawling is, in fact, serious business. Whether you're a microbrew-sipping hipster or a hardhat Joe who likes his bars dark and his Bud Light, there are myriad factors to consider when choosing a watering hole to dunk your head in: Who's got the best eats? The best vibe? The friendliest staff? The best selection of suds? The place your boss (or your spouse) is least likely to find you? But one question looms over them all like a bouncer with a baseball bat: Who has the best happy hour specials? Wonder no more. Because we at the Mercury valiantly drank our way across the Las Vegas Valley in search of the best happy hour specials and cheapest drinks. What follows is the fruit of our (burp!) labor: the Mercury Happy Hour Guide. It wasn't easy. Many a liver sacrificed itself for the cause, many a pickup line flopped like a frat boy after his first beer bong; and we squared off with thousands of hot wings and cheese fries with nothing more than a pitcher of Miller and a roll of Tums. So next time you're out enjoying a foamy mug or a frou-frou martini, don't forget to toss back one for us.‹Andrew Kiraly and Newt Briggs
